According to the DSM-IV (and most of the bipolars I know), indiscretions of all sorts can be symptoms of hypomania or mania. Spending sprees, disastrous affairs, foolish financial decisions. We're smart enough to know better, but under the influence of our own brain chemicals everything looks inviting, there are no thoughts of consequences.
But doesn't it feel good?
I'm not sure where I'm taking this... I guess I'm trying to say that bipolars are more likely to have walked in in the moonlight.
A google search for "bipolar planet" came up with many excellent pages linking in to older versions of the page. I'm always up for exploration.
First there was a piece on Nathan Callahan's site about gay relatives. Further down the page he came to the astonishing (Not!) conclusion that we live on a bipolar planet. I wrote:
I just wanted to share that there is, indeed, a Bipolar Planet out there. I've run a web page called the Bipolar Planet since 1995. I celebrate the seasons since the illness has large seasonal components - SAD. I'm also openly bisexual. A lot of us bipolars are gay or bi. I suspect that the rest are bi-curious... Can you be induced to put a link to http://www.bipolarplanet.com/ on the http://nathancallahan.com/gayrealtives.html page? I would love to use a reciprocal link as an excuse to start a section on hypersexuality in bipolars. Hubba hubba! As an aside, the antidepressant Effexor is a chemical relative of MDMA. See http://www.biopsychiatry.com/ for an enlightening tour of Engineered Paradise. Leslie
He was kind enough to agree, and here is the beginnings of a new section. Thanks for the inspiration, Nathan. The article is on http://nathancallahan.com/gayrealtives.html#Bipolar.
And do check out http://www.biopsychiatry.com/ for more drug tidbits.
Another kewl page was the Wildhearts Ranch Gay & Lesbian Resources page. I don't know how they found me, but here I am! It made me wish I was artistically inclined.
Watch this space. I feel a hypo coming on!
