In the Name of the Turtle

CARE AND FEEDING OF DEPRESSIONS

by Brother John, BP

I have decided to call my depression Turtle. He is one of those pulling in legs, pulling in head, hiding in shell kind of depressions so I think Turtle is a good name for him. I took Turtle in to see my counselor at Couny Mental Health. He and my counselor had a long discussion. My counselor said that Turtle is a well pedigreed depression, registered in the DSM-IV. He asked me whether I wanted to take Turtle to the hospital and I said that I didn't think that Turtle needed a hospital at this time.

I discussed Turtle's diet with the psych technician and he feels that 3 to 4 pills of Wellbutrin a day will do fine for Turtle but warned me not to take them all at once.

Turtle has been getting tired of the couch so I took Turtle to the beach today and we had a happy time depressing on the beach together..

Lying on the beach was different from lying on the couch. There was sand all over the place, we watched the Amtrak go by and kids playing with lots of energy in the sand. I kinda liked taking Turtle to the beach and I think as long as he is around I am going to try to take him to places we can enjoy. Maybe tomorrow I shall take him to a coffee shop and we can sit in the sun, watch the traffic go by and depress happily together.

Turtle would like to made welcome. He is after all only a six day old depression, a real youngster and good use a depression shower, welcome cards, glad to know you messages, we knew your brother kind of stuff. Just think if you had a Turtle, wouldnt you like people to be nice to him. And if you find a turtle, let us know. We shall welcome him too and throw a party in his honor.
